Nigeria has recorded the fifth Ebola virus fatality with the death of Stella Adadevoh, a female consultant physician, in Lagos. Dr. Adadevoh, a consultant endocrinologist, was the first Nigerian to be diagnosed with the disease.
Health Minister, Onyebuchi Chukwu, announced her demise in a statement yesterday evening. Reacting to the death of Dr Adadevoh, Chief Medical Director, Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Akin Osibogun, who described the deceased as a thorough professional said she had helped Nigeria to contain the epidemic in her own way.
Meanwhile, the United States Government has commended the federal and Lagos state governments for their efforts to contain the spread of the Ebola virus.
It also said it has been engaged in fighting the outbreak since March, when cases were first reported in Guinea.  US Consul General in Lagos, Jeffery Hawkins says United States Agency for International Development has committed 14.55 million dollars to support efforts being made to fight the disease.
