Somerset Borough police are trying to find the individual — or individuals — responsible for two frightening armed robberies of elderly residents Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
Somerset Borough police chief Randy Cox said police have not ruled out that the same person may have committed both crimes.
The first incident occurred around 8 p.m. in the area of East Sanner Street. A male broke down the front door and confronted an 82-year-old male with a gun demanding money. The man started hitting the robber with a stool and the robber left.
As police were investigating the first incident, someone entered a North Rosina Avenue home of an elderly 82-year-old woman at 3 a.m. The man ran up to her room, held a gun to her head, and demanded cash. She emptied her purse. Then the man made her drive to her bank and withdraw funds.
Cox said the man made her drive to another bank the ATM kept her debit card. The man made her drive back to her house and he looked for jewelry and other valuables.
After that, Cox said, the man made her drive him to the east side of town where he exited the car and ran off.
In both cases the man had his face covered and wore gloves, he also had dark colored clothes.
Cox said both victims are doing well, but are legitimately frightened.
