If you were asked to describe ‘Game of Thrones’ in three words, it would be ‘Death’, ‘Sex’ and ‘Dragons’ (and boobies!). So when you hear that the author of the book series on which the TV show is based, who threatens to(or kills) your favorite character every other week, wrote a children’s book, you have to be worried.
From someone who has read all the books in the ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ series so far, I have to say that George R. R. Martin is quite the brutal author. He pays a lot of attention to all the gory details of his killings, so you would not want your kid reading any of the books with you.
The Daily Dot has reported that Martin wrote a novel for kids back in 1980 but never published it and now, the book is set to be officially released on October 21. It has been confirmed that the book “Ice Dragon” takes place in the same Westeros universe, however, it’s unclear exactly how the book fits in with the rest of the series.
On his blog, Martin described the “new” release as: “an illustrated and edited version of a short story that I wrote back in the ’70s.” A description of the plot reads in part:
Adara liked the winter best of all, for when the world grew cold the ice dragon came. The ice dragon was a creature of legend and fear, for no man had ever tamed one. When it flew overhead, it left in its wake desolate cold and frozen land. But Adara was not afraid. For Adara was a winter child, born during the worst freeze that anyone, even the Old Ones, could remember.
No doubt, George R.R Martin is a fascinating author, but you have to wonder if he can truly translate part of the series for a younger audience without scarring them for life.
