ASUU: VICE CHANCELLORS OF PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES INTERVENE IN CRISIS

The Vice-Chancellors of private universities are going to intervene in the lingering crisis between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
The Chairman, Committee of Vice Chancellors and Registrars of Private Universities (CVRPU), Adebayo Adeyemi, announced this during the press conference, which took place on Wednesday.
Private universities used to be accused of taking advantage of the ongoing strike, but Mr. Mr. Adeyemi dismissed these insinuations stating the following:
“The development is a national embarrassment which nobody is proud of.”
According to his words, the decision is not connected with the recent threat by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) to shut down private universities because of the crisis.
Mr. Adeyemi claimed that his group was already taking some covert measures.
He also expressed optimism that the crisis will be soon overcome.
The chairman pointed out the importance of finding an agreement and conducting constant dialogue to avoid future crisi.
Mr. Adeyemi, who is the Vice Chancellor, Bells University, Ota, Ogun, announced that the 5th convocation ceremony of the institution would hold between November 1 and 2, at the school premises.
He disclosed that a total of 207 students would be graduating with 14 of them passing out with first class honours.
