WOMAN DUMPS NEWBORN BABY INSIDE PLASTIC BAG JUST 2 HOURS AFTER GIVING BIRTH

A woman has been arrested for allegedly dumping her two-hour-old newborn baby inside a plastic bag and leaving the tot to die.

The 20-year-old mother is thought to have been uncertain about who the child’s father was and decided to abandon the child because she did not have a stable income. The abandoned pink plastic bag was reportedly spotted in Wangjiaoqiao village, south-west China, by locals who were shocked to find the newborn inside.

The child, whose gender was not reported, was rushed to hospital by police for emergency treatment. It is not clear when the incident happened.

But doctors could not save the baby’s life despite four hours of desperate attempts to revive the tot.

Investigators who watched surveillance footage from the village discovered that the child was carried across town by a woman wearing a red coat and black trousers who later discarded the bag a distance from her home in a random spot.

After police located her home and arrested her, she reportedly confessed to abandoning the child just two hours after giving birth.

UNABLE TO PROVIDE FOR HIS FAMILY: 45-YEAR OLD OKADA RIDER KILLS SELF

Tragedy struck on Tuesday in the Ijebu Igbo area of Ogun State after a motorcycle rider, identified as Monday Onoja, hanged himself.

Monday, 45, who had been incapacitated after an accident, was said to be dependent on his wife.

It was learnt that the father of five expressed dissatisfaction with his life the previous day and threatened to kill himself.

Efforts by his wife, Esther, and a relative to make the Benue State indigene change his mind reportedly proved abortive.

The victim was reported to have woken up early and hanged himself in his room.

The corpse of the motorcycle rider was discovered around 8am at the victim’s residence on Ogunnaya Street, Ojowo, Ijebu-Igbo.

Esther told Punch Metro on the telephone that she was bathing one of their children when her attention was called to the dangling corpse of her husband.

She said, “We have been married for the past 15 years and we had five children together. While he was a commercial okada rider, I am into trading. He was on his motorcycle on May 3, 2016, when he was involved in an accident.

“He broke his leg. Since that time, he had been staying at home and we had been managing the little I could provide for the family.

“Although he had yet to fully recover to start working again, he had started using crutches.

“Last night (Monday), he said he didn’t want to eat rice, that he wanted something else. Later, he threatened that he would kill himself. I begged him not to, but he shunned me. I called one of his brothers, who also came to talk to him. But he said he would sell his motorcycle and return to the village.

“This morning (Tuesday), I was bathing our child when one of the other children came to call me that their father was dangling from the ceiling. I ran there and met him dead.”

A resident, Mr. Kehinde Ogunbanjo, told also told Punch that the deceased killed himself because he could no longer provide for his family.

“The accident really affected him. He was depressed due to financial difficulty and because he could not provide for his family,” he said.

A source said policemen from the Ijebu Igbo division had visited the scene.

He explained that the police did not go with the corpse because it was the tradition of the town that whenever anyone died in that circumstance, certain rites must be performed before burial.

“The Osugbo cult will take the corpse away. The police only took the statement of the wife,” he said.

The Police Public Relations officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident, adding that the police did not suspect any foul play.

Adejobi, a Superintendent of Police, however, said the victim’s wife in her statement claimed she met her husband’s corpse after returning from their children’s school, where she had gone to pay school fees.

He said, “The man’s wife, Esther, reported at the station that she went to the children’s school to settle their school fees and on her return, she discovered that her husband, Monday, had committed suicide by hanging himself with a rope.

“Detectives visited the scene and took pictures. All necessary arrangements have been put in place to move the body to the mortuary. No foul play suspected, while investigations are ongoing.”

BARACK OBAMA EMBRACES HILLARY AS HE SLAMS TRUMP IN HIS LAST DNC SPEECH

Hillary Clinton upstaged President Barack Obama yesterday night with a surprise appearance at the end of his Democratic National Convention speech.

Clinton and Obama shared a long hug and paraded around the stage while Obama's 2008 campaign song, 'Signed, Sealed, Delivered,' blared over a loudspeaker.

Obama did his best to unite the Democratic Party yesterday night  and redirect progressives' anger from Clinton to Donald Trump.

Trump is fanning the flames of 'resentment, and blame, and anger and hate,' he said. Clinton, on the other hand keeps her cool, and treats everybody with respect. And no matter how daunting the odds; no matter how much people try to knock her down, she never, ever, quits,' he said.

He also backed up Clinton's 'judgement'  which is evidenced by her selection of Tim Kaine to be her vice president.

After complimenting losing Democrat Bernie Sanders' supporters' for their tenacity, Obama came back around in his speech and shamed them into giving their backing to the party's nominee - Clinton.

'Hillary Clinton is that woman in the arena. She’s been there for us even if we haven’t always noticed.

And if you’re serious about our democracy, you can’t afford to stay home just because she might not align with you on every issue,' he told them to deafening cheers from Clinton's supporters.
Obama said: 'You’ve got to get in the arena with her, because democracy isn’t a spectator sport. America isn’t about “yes he will.” It’s about “yes we can.” And we’re going to carry Hillary to victory this fall, because that’s what the moment demands.'.

Making sure they got the message, he again told them, it's 'yes WE can - not yes I can - yes WE can.'
The president got a huge response as he arrived at the Democratic National Convention to pass the torch to Clinton, his former secretary of state.

'Thank you,' he yelled over their clapping. 'Thank you so much. Thank you, everyone!'

WOMAN ON HUNGER STRIKE FOR 16 YEARS OVER INDIA’S UNFAVOURABLE LAWS (PHOTOS)

A 44-year-old activist who has been on hunger strike for nearly 16 years is finally about to eat.

Irom Sharmila started her nil by mouth protest to highlight alleged brutality by India’s military. She has said she will end her fast in August and run in state elections.

Ms Sharmila has not eaten any food voluntarily since November 5 2000, when she began her protest against an Indian law that suspends many human rights protections in areas of conflict.

Three days earlier, 10 civilians had been killed by paramilitary troops in Malom, a small town on the outskirts of Imphal, the Manipur state capital.

Three days into her hunger strike, she was arrested on charges of attempting suicide – which is a crime in India.

Prison officials at a government hospital in Manipur have since force fed her through a tube in her nose.

‘The only way to bring change is electoral process. I will stand as an independent candidate from Malom constituency,’ Ms Sharmila said.

She said the single issue on her agenda would be the removal of the law that allows the military to act with impunity.

The Armed Forces Special Powers Act is in effect in Indian-ruled Kashmir and north-eastern areas dogged by separatist insurgencies.
The law states that troops have the right to shoot to kill suspected rebels without fear of possible prosecution and to arrest suspected militants without a warrant.

It also gives police wide-ranging powers of search and seizure, prohibits soldiers from being prosecuted for alleged rights violations unless granted express permission from the federal government, though such prosecutions are very rare.

Ms Sharmila has spent most of her detention in hospital, where doctors make sure her condition is stable. She is also required to report to a local court every 15 days.

Her long hunger strike has garnered support from across the world, with Amnesty International has called her a prisoner of conscience.
