In her new book titled “Lost & Found: Finding Hope in the Detours of Life,” Sarah Jakes, daughter of Bishop T.D. Jakes, is trying to help those who have made bad decisions through sharing her experiences in life.
Jakes, 25, has just published a book of memoirs that she hopes will encourage other women to hold on to their faith and get through the difficulties that they will face in life, even if those difficulties come from wrong personal choices.
Sarah Jakes certainly has made some wrong decisions in her life, at the tender age of 13, she found herself pregnant and later fell in love with and married a bad boy in college.
Although her marriage to NFL linebacker Robert Henson ended in divorce last year, Jakes says that it is only her faith that brought her through to where she is now.
In her book, Jakes describes the pressure of growing up in such a famous family and how often she'd upset her Godly parents. She adds that she didn't show a preview of her book to her parents before it was published, but when they read it, both were in full support.
During a women's conference that her parents organized in Houston, TX, Sarah decided to tell her story to those gathered, even though most of them didn't know that she had a child at 14.
Jakes goes on to say that “A grown woman at the conference told me that when I told my own story, I released her from the shame of having her baby at 14. Thirty-five years of shame is too long.” She adds that turning her back on her own shame is what helped her really start to live her life through her faith in Christ.
Jakes says her confidence in herself grew after that encounter with the older woman in Houston, and she began to share her story with anyone she could find, even on social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook. She adds that people tend to live with shame a long time and she is now trying to help them forgive themselves and get on with their lives.
Jakes now has a new boyfriend who she says helps her “walk in pride with purpose,” and her past is exactly that something of the past as she gets on with her new life and helping others.
