TOPE ALABI SET FOR TURN IT UP

Popular gospel artiste, Tope Alabi, is set for this year’s edition of the most anticipated gospel event in Ibadan, Turn it up. In a chat with Saturday Beats, the gospel artiste says she is delighted to be part of the event.

“I am excited and delighted to be a part of this year’s edition of Turn it up. I always take advantage of any situation to win more souls for Christ,” she said.

The event which would be hosted by foremost gospel artiste cum radio personality, Bolaji Olanrewaju, popularly known as Big B, is scheduled for the last Sunday in July.

Among other notable gospel singers billed to grace the occasion are Bois Olorun, Mike Abdul, Kent Oxygen, Kenny Black and First born.

Turn it up is a blend of music, comedy, talk, and prayer, among other things.

This year, the organisers are taking it a notch higher with a grand prize of a saloon car to be won from a raffle ticket draw.

I’VE NOT BEEN INVITED BY NDLEA –DAVIDO

Pop artiste Davido whose recent work featuring American rapper Meek Mill caught the attention of the National Drug Laws Enforcement Agency has said he has not been invited by the agency to answer any question.

When the Aye crooner hinted his fans that he was featuring Mill in his song, Fans mi, many knew that the song would be a commercial success. Indeed it became a hit song and shortly after, a video was shot in America for the most recent work.

But the video did not go down well with the authorities of the NDLEA as it claimed it could incite youths to use hard drugs.

In an exclusive chat with Saturday Beats, the pop star through his manager, Kamal Ajiboye, explained that the video was aimed at promoting African culture through its rich cuisines like pounded yam and vegetable soup.

He said that Davido never intended to promote substance abuse and that the musician had not been invited by the NDLEA.

“The NDLEA has not got in touch with us. We heard about the news on the pages of newspapers. They have neither called nor invited us over. People just pictured the video in a negative way. When we wrote the script for the video, it was not to portray Davido as a drug trafficker. If they watch the video till the end, they would notice that we were selling African lifestyle through our food. That was our idea of the video. If you watch it to the end, you would see him eating pounded yam and vegetable soup. When we learnt that people thought Davido was using the video to encourage drug usage, we were very shocked. We hope that when people watch it to the end, they would get the message. Davido is baffled that he is under investigation by the NDLEA but what would he do when they have not made any contact with us? We would keep doing our business as usual. Not even the police have placed a call to us, not to talk of the NDLEA before people would begin to say that we are using money to influence the situation. They have to take a step first. As of Wednesday when Davido was travelling to Durban, we were hoping that the NDLEA would accost us at the airport so that we could sort this issue out, but there was nobody there,” he said.

SCORES DUMP PDP FOR APC IN BAYELSA

Scores of the Peoples Democratic Party in Bayelsa State on Friday defected to the All Progressives Congress.

The defection saw two-time member of House of Representatives, Chief Warman Ogoriba, and many other PDP supporters, some former aides of Governor Seriake Dickson, embracing the APC.

Those who also dumped the PDP were former commissioners in the state: Charles Opuola, Nelson Belief, Sylvanus Abila, and Ayiba Nelson.

Others are Adolphus Ofongo, Lucky Yeboah, Romeo Ebizimor, Williams Ofoni, John Ebikake and Moses Tariebe, among others.

Prominent APC chieftains who received the defectors at the party’s secretariat in Yenagoa former Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Timipre Sylva; former Acting governors Nestor Binabo and Werinipre Seibarugu; Ambassador Felix Oboro, state Chairman of APC, Tiwei Orunimighe; his deputy, Eddy Julius; Secretary, Marlin Daniel and Publicity Secretary, Panebi Fortune, among others.

Sylva said APC would, on February 14, 2016, occupy the state Government House, Yenagoa, as the ruling party.

According to him, the PDP is dead in Bayelsa State and the people are only waiting for its funeral, which will come soon.

Urging all members of the APC to unite, the former governor said,

“The party is a sweet family. The message is that all of us should come together and form one big family. The dirt on Yenagoa and Bayelsa will be swept off by the APC and thrown into Opuabadi (sea).
“As for the PDP, do not make any mistake. The PDP government in Bayelsa State is dead. Its funeral is being postponed. We will bury it soon.”

Here is a list of things you need to teach your Child(ren) at early age:

1: Warn your Girl Child Never to sit on anyone's laps no matter the situation including uncles.

2: Avoid Getting Dressed in front of your child once he/she is 2 years old. Learn to excuse them or yourself.

3. Never allow any adult refer to your child as 'my wife' or 'my husband'

4. Whenever your child goes out to play with friends make sure you look for a way to find out what kind of play they do, because young people now sexually abuse themselves.

5. Never force your child to visit any adult he or she is not comfortable with and also be observant if your child becomes too fond of a particular adult.

6. Once a very lively child suddenly becomes withdrawn you may need to patiently ask lots of questions from your child.

7. Carefully educate your grown ups about the right values of sex . If you don't, the society will teach them the wrong values.

8: It is always advisable you go through any new Material like cartoons you just bought for them before they start seeing it themselves.

9. Ensure you activate parental controls on your cable networks and advice your friends especially those your child(ren) visit(s) often.

10. Teach your 3 year olds how to wash their private parts properly and warn them never to allow anyone touch those areas and that includes you (remember, charity begins from home and with you).

11: Blacklist some materials/associates you think could threaten the sanity of your child (this includes music, movies and even friends and families).

12. Let your child(ren) understand the value of standing out of the crowd.

13: Once your child complains about a particular person, don't keep quiet about it. Take up the case and show them you can defend them.

READ EMINEM’S (EXTREMELY NEAT) HANDWRITTEN LETTER TO 2PAC’S MOM

Eminem is one of the greatest rappers of all-time, and he’s got plenty of love and respect for another of the game’s most legendary artists: 2Pac.

To show his admiration for the late rapper, Em penned a letter to 2’Pac’s mother, Afeni Shakur — where he expressed his gratitude for her, as well — which originally appeared in the 2007 book “Tupac Remembered.” It reportedly is also on display at the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts in Stone Mountain, Georgia, and, as Complex points out, made its way online a few days ago.

Now, we get to share in Em’s message to Afeni and 2’Pac: “You are a true Queen,” he says to her, adding, “You have no idea how much your son and his music has inspired…my whole career.”

REAL MADRID AGREE CASILLA DEAL WITH ESPANYOL

The Blancos have secured their replacement for Iker Casillas, potentially spelling the end of their interest in Manchester United's David de Gea
Real Madrid have agreed a deal to sign Espanyol goalkeeper Kiko Casilla on a five-year contract, both clubs have confirmed.

The Spain international - a Blancos youth product - left the Santiago Bernabeu side in 2008, but the departure of Iker Casillas to Porto triggered a pursuit from his former club to bring him back this summer as a replacement.

Following Espanyol's announcement that a deal had been reached with Madrid, the Blancos revealed the length of Casilla's contract based on the assumption no fitness problems are found in his upcoming medical.

"Real Madrid and Espanyol have agreed to the transfer of Kiko Casilla, subject to a necessary medical examination," Madrid stated. "The player will be tied to the club for the next five seasons.

At a press conference on Friday, Casilla paid tribute to Casillas' 25 years on Madrid's books but believes he can now seize the opportunity to become Rafa Benitez's No.1.

"The opportunity to sign for Real Madrid comes only once and I was determined to take it," he told reporters. "Iker's time at Madrid is at an end and I wish him the best, but now it's my turn. I think he's the best Madrid goalkeeper ever, though.
"Espanyol gave me the opportunity to become a professional player and I am grateful to the club for letting me leave. They'll remain a close club to me and I hope to come back someday in the future."

The undisclosed offer from Madrid could spell the end of their efforts to sign Manchester United shot-stopper David de Gea, with Costa Rica star Keylor Navas providing competition to Casilla in 2015-16.

Casilla's contract would have allowed him to join Rafa Benitez's squad for €10 million, but it is widely believed that the Barcelona-based club have parted ways with the 28-year-old for a fee nearer €6m after rejecting a €4m offer earlier in July.

Casilla had featured 126 times for Espanyol in his seven years at the Estadi Cornella El Prat.

BIRDMAN SUING JAY Z’S TIDAL FOR $50 MILLION OVER LIL WAYNE’S “FREE WEEZY ALBUM”

Lil Wayne’s adoptive father and former label boss Birdman is suing Jay Z’s music streaming service Tidal for $50 million, according to TMZ.

Birdman’s Cash Money Records filed the lawsuit which claims that Tidal is illegally using Wayne’s songs, which it says it has exclusive rights to.

According to TMZ, the lawsuit says TIDAL’s release of the music was “a desperate and illegal attempt to save their struggling streaming service.”
The streaming service, however, responded to the claims by saying that Lil Wayne gave it the rights to the music in exchange for an ownership stake in the company.

Cash Money countered by quoting its contract with Lil Wayne, saying he can not license his music to other parties. Lil Wayne signed with TIDAL last month.

OKONJO-IWEALA BLOWS LID OFF JONATHAN’S ILLEGAL DEALS

Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has reportedly handed President Muhammadu Buhari a list of corrupt deals approved by former President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan. The immediate past Finance Minister in an attempt to curry favor with the new government, recently directed officials of her polling agency, NOI Polls, to give President Buhari a 70 per cent approval rating.

Her moves might, however, not be unconnected with the recent happenings in the country, as The Economic Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has been clamping down on corrupt ex-governors, and in order for the search-light not to beam on her soon, the ex-minister is reportedly seeking a soft landing.

JONATHAN ACTIONS, INACTIONS IN OFFICE WILL HUNT S/SOUTH FOR LONG – OBASANJO

Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo Friday said the immediate past President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan should be blamed for his actions and in-actions while in office and not those who helped him into office.

He asserted that the idea of people like him in 2010 was to ensure that a person from the minority zone is given the opportunity to rule the nation which led to the support he gave to Jonathan, adding however that the former President’s actions in office and his subsequent defeat at the polls will hunt the people of the South South for a long time.

The former President also urged President Muhammadu Buhari to use education to sustain the progress made so far in the war against Boko Haram, just as he attributed the scourge in the North East to poverty and lack of education among the youths which he attributed to the alleged refusal of governors in the North East to pay their counterpart funds when his administration established the Universal Basic Education (UBE), which according to him would have given children in their area to opportunity to enjoy free and compulsory education.

Chief Obasanjo stated this while delivering a lecture entitled “Effective Education, a Panacea for Societal Development and Transformation”, at the 11th convocation ceremony of the Benson Idahosa University (BIU), Benin City.

The former President who was told to defend himself on the allegation that he was part of the alleged failure of President Jonathan in office, since he backed him for the presidency in 2011, asserted that

“I have also said that you can help anybody to get a job but you cannot help him to do it. Let us get it clear, there is nobody who has got into any position who has not been helped by one person or more than one person.
“To become Nigeria’s head of state, it was first of all my performance in the war front, now if General Gowon had not sent me to the war front, you won’t know whether I can perform or cannot perform. Now he sent me to the war front, I thank him for it and because I performed we shared the credit, if I had failed, Gowon would not have shared the credit, he would not have shared the condemnation with me, I will be alone.
“Yes as I have said, I believe that opportunity that afforded itself in 2010 for somebody from the minority to become the president of Nigeria, he should never lose the opportunity but what he did with it is entirely to him and don’t forget what he did or did not do with it, will reflect for a long time on that part of the country. And don’t take that lightly, what he did or did not do with it, will reflect for a long time on that part of the country. But again those blaming me, was I the only person that supported him?
“I was not the only 18 million voters who voted for him. You that asked the question who did you vote for, is it not Jonathan? He queried (General laughter in the hall).

While expressing confidence that President Buhari will crush the Boko Haram menace, Chief Obasanjo hinted that it was the major reason the President was traveling to the United States next week, to seek the assistance of President Barack Obama to tackle the menace head on.

While attributing the problem to poverty, unemployment and lack of education, Obasanjo stressed the need to provide compulsory education in the North East and re-orientate the people of the area on the need tackle the Boko Haram insurgency whole heartedly.

His words: “Education is a moral enterprise which we need to re-engage, the issue of Boko Haram President Buhari should also tackle it from the angle of morale education, if we are able to tackle boko haram with education in our schools, both in the social media that they use, we will dilute their messages and positively win their hearts and others who have been swayed by the jihadists messages.
“To succeed with counter messages, we need to be more appealing, and truthful and as intense as those of boko haram if not more. The capacity of all teachers would be strengthened to deliver such messages; morning and afternoon assemblies of our primary and secondary schools should have a strong dose of such messages, our airwaves and social media should also be saturated with such positive messages even if we defeat boko haram on the battle front, we need education to sustain the victory.
“Let me give you an insight, in 2010 there was a survey of education in Nigeria and among the six geo political zones; in the south west, it was 79 per cent that are educated, in the south east, it is about 78 per cent in the North East, where boko haram dominates, it is 19 per cent and that is one of the reasons people believe that boko haram was a menace waiting to happen and it doesn’t matter what we do, we have to reverse that trend maybe the situation has even gone worse in the last five years because people have moved out of school some schools have been destroyed and we cannot fold our arms and say it is up to the North East.
“It is up to all of us in Nigeria, we have to do what should be done to bring parity in the area of education across the length and breadth of the country. The boko Haram insurgency is serious problem which we pray will be a thing of the past soon. There are several factors into the insurgency, I am sure that President Buhari will do the needful to exterminate this scourge.
“That is one of the reasons President Buhari is traveling to the US next week to secure the support of the American Government to fight terrorism in Nigeria. As we tackle it from the military front and other angles, we should also tackle it through the power of education which is what you have asked me to talk about today” he stated.

FREEZE IS A GOOD BOY AS HE DELETES WOUNDED PICTURES AFTER TONI PAYNE HAD ADVISED HIM

DON JAZZY ANTICIPATES TIWA SAVAGE’S QUICK CHILD-DELIVERY

From all indications, Mavin Records boss, Don Jazzy can’t wait for the arrival of Tiwa Savage‘s baby.

The super producer urged the unborn child to hurry up and come out, so that Tiwa can join the other Mavin stars to work and 'hustle' for more money.

It would be recalled that the ‘Eminado’ singer announced her first pregnancy to the world on January 1, 2015 and had her baby shower on Sunday, May 17, 2015 in Lagos.

WHY I DON’T WANT TO BE A KING…ACTOR, DEJUMO LEWIS

Veteran Nollywood actor, Dejumo Lewis, who played the role of a paramount king, Oloja of Oja in the now rested NTA drama, Village Headmaster, has disclosed that he is set out to help build Nigeria and Africa as a whole and not ready for any kingship position.

The actor stated that he is from Erijiyan in Ekiti state and belongs to the ruling families but was not interested in any royal position.

He noted that though he plans to relocate to his state, but for a better course of helping to develop the youths to models in the country at large.

According to him, “Despite coming from a royal family, my mission in life was not to become a king. Now, I’m planning to relocate to Erijiyan Ekiti to help develop my town and state of origin, with the hope of building a cultural foundation that will help others and be a model for Nigeria and other parts of Africa. This I hope to leave behind for community and my children. And I hope to develop this as our culture dictates.”

“I belong to one of the ruling families? I’m not cut out for that because my mission is for Nigeria and Africa as a whole. Mind you, I left the priesthood because it will restrict my professional and operational base, so also the kingship stool will restrict me to my domain,” he told Sun newspaper.
