KENYAN RAPPER, MWAF APOLOGISE TO ICE PRINCE FOR FIERY BACKLASH

Coming barely 48 hours after his initial 'hate' post on social media, Kenyan rapper, Mwafreeka Mwaf, has a U-turn to clear the air concerning his unguarded remarks about Nigerian rapper, Ice Prince.

In the post, he talked about not knowing that Ice Prince had a million followers on Twitter, Nigeria's accent been referred to as the "African Accent" and the pretense of his homeland artistes.

"Just realized in the past few days that Ice Prince is a MEGA superstar. No disrespect but I didn't know. Anyway my comment on him seems to have made headlines in Nigeria. Funny shit is they describing my songs as chart topping, heheheeheh.

"To quote Chief Kamachi "I'm a Underground rapper, my jewels is invisible"

"I have never had a hit single in Kenya even my collabo with K'NAAN only topped the charts in South Africa.

"Anyway to make things clear, I respect Ice Prince hustle as a rapper. 1 million people must be following him for a reason. What I meant by realistic dreams is I would understand if he rapped about cars like Range Rovers, Audis, Benzes, BMWs. Am sure he can easily afford those and be able to drive them in Nigeria."
He however said the Bugatti Ice Prince was rapping was far-fetched and will not fit right on the Nigerian roads.

"I just feel the Bugatti dream is far fetched. With its very low center of gravity, does Nigeria have the roads to drive that shit on? No disrespect to Nigeria but I think only South Africa has the infrastructure for such cars."
He further clarified that his thoughts in the quest to 'learn' about Nigeria from Ice Prince.

"Also with 1 million followers, I think Ice Prince has earned enough mandate to TRULY express himself on other stuff other than girls and cars. (There's nothing wrong with rhyming about girls BTW ;))

"Still I would want to learn more about Nigeria through his music. One thing I respect about Nigeria is they are proud of their accent, whether in Kenya or America, a Nigerian speaks in his accent and proudly. Nigerians are so proud that even Hollywood treats the Nigerian accent as the "African accent"
"In Kenya as soon as we enter the plane we develop a foreign accent etc. So with such proud people I think Ice Prince or any successful African artist doesn't need to copy paste the American swag.

"My thoughts!!"

I’M FORTUNATE TO HAVE MARRIED MY WIFE—DELE MOMODU

The Chief Executive Officer of a popular Nigerian photo magazine, Ovation International, Dele Momodu, has revealed the secret behind his marriage, which has lasted over two decades. This he revealed in a recent interview with The Nation newspaper.

"I have been very fortunate to have been married to someone who has been a mother to five boys. All our children are boys; we have four of them and I am the fifth child of my wife! She has learnt to carry me as her fifth baby. No matter how old a man is, we always act like babies. So, I am lucky she has been able to understand me and know that you cannot throw your baby away," he said in the interview.

He said to be the man of the house, the husband should see himself as a baby to his wife.

"That is actually the spirit of marriage; husband and wife must live as if the husband is the baby, though you are supposed to be the head of the house, you are still her baby. Women know what we do not know as husbands.

“They understand what we do not understand and because most of the time, they are at home, they see more of everything and know the children better than the husband does.

"The women carried the children in the womb so they know more. And then we have learnt to tolerate each other. We have also learnt to be wary of what other people say to us about us, the busy-bodies who come around to tell the wife or the husband what the other is doing.

“I, for instance, I ask for their motive, what do they stand to gain by telling me things? So, we have gone through our own turbulence, but God has always been there for us. As for celebrity marriages, I will advise celebrities to be more tolerant of each other as couples. More importantly, celebrity couples should learn to respect one another," the Ovation Magazine boss pointed out.

AFTERMATH OF PIX SCANDAL, MO’CHEDDAH STRUGGLES TO REVIVE CAREER

Talk about one singer in the Nigerian music industry who is fighting restlessly to bounce back to spotlight, Modupe Oreoluwa Oyeyemi a.k.a Mo’Cheddah’s name will surface.

The petite singer, who went out of circulation for many months, after her purported unclothed picture surfaced online, is said to be using different strategies to register her presence back in the highly competitive music industry.

Aside from the fact that she has released few singles that failed to top the chart after the whole brouhaha, findings revealed that she has made herself available for image making publicities, and has appeared in numerous events in recent times just to stay relevant, but still, some music buffs are finding it difficult to welcome her back.

However, some schools of thought are of the opinion that Mo’Cheddah’s exit from her former record label, KnightHouse is the greatest mistake of her life; others are of the opinion that the Nigerian music industry is now saturated with a lot of talented female entertainers like Tiwa Savage, Waje, Omawumi, Yemi Alade etc, and that it would be hard for her to just break into the top easily again.

But only time will tell if Mo’Cheeda will still be able to pull a stunt and make a comeback to the frontline.

HENRY HAILS CAZORLA AFTER ARSENAL DOWN MANCHESTER CITY

Thierry Henry was full of praise for Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla, after the Spaniard produced a superb display in their 2-0 win over Manchester City on Sunday.

Cazorla opened scoring in the first half from the penalty spot, before setting up Olivier Giroud to score the second goal.

“He controlled that midfield. To come and play the way he did here at the Etihad Stadium was outstanding,” Henry, who made his punditry debut on Sky Sports, said.

“What a player. I said before the game that people were focusing on Sanchez but at the moment, Cazorla is the guy that makes the team tick. Sanchez didn’t have a great game today, but they won 2-0.

“When was the last time you saw a Man City team not have a single chance to score? I know they had a couple of shots but they weren’t great opportunities.

“He’s always smiling. I also like the fact he was trying to calm people down when Arsenal were under pressure.

“It’s very important for him to be in the middle. It’s a different story when you have to play out wide. I don’t think he has the body or the leg work to be out there.
“Once you’re in the middle and you’re not far from everybody in terms of pressure, he can do that all day.”

YAHOO-YAHOO: EFCC ARRESTS SUSPECTED INTERNET FRAUDSTER OVER $100,000 ROMANCE SCAM

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested an alleged internet fraudster for obtaining $100,000 from one Miss Hengameh Misepasi in a romance scam.

The spokesman of the EFCC, Mr Wilson Uwujaren, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday.

He said the suspect was arrested in Port Harcourt by operatives of the commission following a petition from the Nigerian Embassy in Stockholm, Sweden.

“The suspect allegedly met the victim online in February 2013 and falsely represented himself as an American business executive on business visit to Nigeria.

“In the course of the internet affair, he promised his victim marriage and later began to make monetary demands on her, using various excuses. “Once, he told her that he had problems with government officials and requested for a loan,” it said.

The statement added that the suspect cajoled Misepasi into partnering with him on a phantom timber business.

According to the statement, the last request the suspect made before his arrest was a demand for $10,000 to enable him to travel to Denmark to meet her.

“It was while he was attempting to withdraw 100 dollars sent by the victim, instead of the 10,000 dollars requested through Western Union that he was arrested,” the statement added. It said the suspect would be arraigned as soon as investigation was completed.

WHY I’VE CHOSEN TO PLAY DI MARIA AS A STRIKER – VAN GAAL

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed why he has chosen to play Angel Di Maria as a striker in recent weeks, citing the Argentina international’s pace as the reason for his decision, Goal reports via MUTV.

The former Barcelona coach has been criticised for leaving Wayne Rooney in midfield and deploying Di Maria further forward in recent fixtures against Southampton and QPR.

The €78 million signing from Real Madrid has struggled to threaten in front of goal in his new role, but Van Gaal believes that the risk he has taken in playing Di Maria out of position is paying off for the team. “I think pace is always important, which is why we try to play with Angel Di Maria as a striker,” he told MUTV following the win at Loftus Road.

“When I changed the shape, I wanted speed or pace also in the attacking line, that’s why I changed in that way. It’s a change in attack that brings lot of risk, but we have won 2-0 and I think it was deserved.”

The Dutch boss also looked to praise his defence as they registered a clean sheet against the Rs at Loftus Road. “The defensive organisation has been good from the beginning,” he added.

“We have only one match against Leicester City that was five goals and, because of that, we had bad average against us, but I think we have a very good defensive organisation so that is not a problem.”

MEET OBESERE’S SON WHO IS ALSO INVOLVED IN MUSIC, LEKAN AKANDE

Lekan Akande is the son of popular Fuji star, Abass Akande Obesere and he’s already toeing the footsteps of his father in music though not yet as a musician.

Lekan’s love for music led him to become involved in music promotion in Dublin where he’s resident and in 2013, he floated his own record label called R-Entertainment, signing on 2 Nigeria-born Dublin-based acts, Beezy and Sajan.

Lekan resides with his mum in Dublin and he’s currently a second year student of Online Marketing at Griffith College in Dublin, Ireland.

In a recent interview with Punch, he said his involvement in Hip-hop and not Fuji like his father is based on his desire to different even if he is still very interested in music.

‘I did not want to be involved with Fuji music because my great-grand father was a Fuji musician same as my father. Two of my father’s younger brothers are also Fuji musicians. I did not toe that path because I wanted to be different and I always think outside the box. I do not want to repeat the things that my father has done, I want to do things my own way. I think it makes a lot of sense to do things my way with the knowledge I have,’ he said.

Asked about the possibility of having his father as an act on his label, Lekan said it is not feasible either now or in the future.

‘No, I am not going to sign my father on my record label. He is doing his thing and so am I. He is too big for me to sign on to my record label.’

OGA BELLO CHASED ME OUT OF ACTING…..KWAM 1

Veteran Fuji singer, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, has revealed that he had always had passion for acting and not music.

According to him, while young, he prefers hanging around movie stars at locations where he will get some minor roles like being a town crier and that gave him the mind set of making it as an actor.

He revealed that his hope of acting was changed when he met veteran actor Adebayo Salami aka Oga Bello, who advised him to pitch his tent in singing rather than acting.

“Occasionally, I would get the role of a town crier or a singer in their plays and it gave me hope that I could make it as an actor until Oga Bello called me one day and advised me to become a singer. He told me that if I heeded his advice, I would not regret it and today, I am glad I did and I have no regrets that I listened to him,” KWAM 1 said.

DRAMA, FIREWORKS AT LAGOS GOV DEBATE

It was drama and fireworks at the 2015 Lagos State Gubernatorial Debate organised by the Anglican Communion, Diocese of Lagos West in collaboration with the Diocese of Badagry and Mainland.

The debate which had in attendance 17 governorship candidates, was held at Archibishop Vining Memorial Church Cathedral, Oba Akinjobi Way, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos.

The candidate of Action Alliance, AC, Mr. Ishola Aregbesola left the audience reeling in laughter when he was giving his autobiography rather than his programme for the state.
He rounded up his speech by saying he was not duly invited for the programme and was surprised when he saw his name on the list.

The governorship candidate of National Conscience Party, NCP, Ayodele Akele, ran foul of the laid down rules of the debate by attacking the government in power in the state.
He rounded up his speech by pledging that his government would stop illegal towing of vehicles on the highways, purchase 50,000 vehicles to ease transportation, build ring roads across the state.

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Akinwunmi Ambode, hinged his programme on the acronym L.A.G.O.S, meaning: Leadersip, Accountability, Governance, Opportunity and Selfless service.

Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate, Jimi Agbaje pledged a robust programme which includes security, housing, economic empowerment, leadership among others.

IF SOMEONE INSULTS MY MOTHER, I WILL PUNCH THEM — POPE

Pope Francis warned that he was ready to “punch” anyone who insulted his mother.

The pontiff said this on Thursday in remarks made en route to the Philippines from Sri Lanka, that “there are limits to freedom of expression and my mother was the limit.

“We have a duty to speak openly, to have this freedom, but without offending others.

“It’s true that you cannot react with violence, but if my aide Doctor Gasbarri, who is a friend, badmouths my mother, a punch would be coming for him,” he added.

The Pope said in relation to recent events in Paris that violence in the name of religion can never be justified, but that there are “limits” to freedom of expression.

“Many people badmouth religion, mock it, play with other people’s religion.

“It can happen, but there are limits, every religion has dignity, every religion that respects life and human beings has a dignity, and you cannot mock it,” he added.

Pope warned that “You cannot provoke, insult, ridicule other people’s faith,”. (dpa/NAN)

I HAVE NOT ENDORSED ANYBODY – SOYINKA SETS THE RECORD STRAIGHT

Ahead of the February elections, Professor Wole Soyinka has denied endorsing any presidential and governorship candidate.

Consequently, the Nobel Laureate warned the peddlers of his supposed endorsement, “to be less gullible, and avoid becoming cheap conduits for the deception industry.”
On Thursday, January 15, Soyinka released a piece titled, “Identity Thieves and the 2015 Election Peace Accord”, where he said: “Let me thus seize the occasion of the Abuja accord to state categorically that I have never made a statement endorsing any presidential or governorship contestant. All such attributions are fabrications by faceless, often self-appointed agents of deception, and should be publicly pilloried.”

“Whenever I choose to declare support for a candidate – as is my electoral right – I shall ensure that I deploy a medium that places my authorship beyond dispute,”
Soyinka said.

Furthermore, he commended the outcome of the recent peace pact signed by all the presidential candidates, including President Goodluck Jonathan and Maj.Gen Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to ensure there’s a violence-free elections.

While describing the pact as a promising step in the direction of democracy, he lauded the efforts of a former Secretary-General of the United Nations, Kofi Annan and a former Secretary-General of Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, in making sure the process was successful.

Soyinka said violence can indeed be averted, provided the peace pact is adhered to with sincerity. “It might even come close to what the democratic ideal should be, as canvassed by others, including Governor Fashola a few years ago,” Soyinka added.

LAGOS 2015: YOU’LL FAIL AGAIN JUST LIKE YOU DID IN 2007 – TINUBU TELLS AGBAJE

A national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and immediate past Governor of Lagos state, Bola Tinubu, has said the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate in the state for the February elections, Jimi Agbaje, will fail again like he did in 2007.

Tinubu said this at the Lagos-West senatorial district campaign of the APC on Wednesday.

According to him, Agbaje is not a saleable candidate and is also no match for the APC candidate, Akinwunmi Ambode.

The former governor said when the President Olusegun Obasanjo administration refused to give Lagos State its allocation and the state could not pay salaries, it was Ambode, who was the then Accountant-General that transformed the economy which led to the increase in the Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, and turned the state into one of the biggest economies in Africa.

“In 2007, we had governorship primary and Fashola won but he (Agbaje) failed and refused to accept the result. I told him to accept the fact that Fashola was more diligent and experienced than him but we told him to remain in the party and we would teach him the way but he refused.

“You see, when a toddler is trying to run when he cannot even walk properly, his mother has to guide him so that he will not fall and break his teeth. He left and joined the Democratic Peoples Alliance. The DPA presented him as its candidate but he failed, we beat him mercilessly.

“Later, he wanted to return to the party and we asked him if he would become a commissioner but we knew it was unlikely because he had even refused to be the deputy governor. Before we knew it, he had gone to join the Ebola party. God forbid that Ebola takes over Lagos.

“See where we are coming from and where we are going. They say they want to replace us in Lagos. Someone who cannot take care of himself wants to take care of Lagos. Don’t experiment with Lagos,” Tinubu said.

Speaking also at the event, Governor Babatunde Fashola, slammed President Goodluck Jonathan for always blaming the insecurity in the country on previous administrations. He also urged the people of the state vote Ambode, saying he was convinced he is the right man for the job.

Fashola said, “I have never said I cannot do my job because my predecessor failed. To say that you cannot buy guns because Maj. Gen Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) failed to do so is flimsy.

Our military were one of the most respected and did well in Sierra Leone and Liberia. “Even if Buhari did not buy guns, is it the guns of 1985 that he wants to use to fight today?”

In his remarks, Ambode, promised to build on the achievements of Tinubu and Fashola.

He also said his government would set up an employment trust fund and make loans available to entrepreneurs, but warned that if PDP was voted into power, they’ll run down the economy of the state which has been improving despite the global fall in oil price.

I SUPPORT JONATHAN ALTHOUGH HIS GOVERNMENT IS CORRUPT – ASARI-DOKUBO

The Leader of the defunct Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo Asari yesterday said he supports President Jonathan even though corruption become endemic in the administration.

Asari- Dokubo added that he’ll bring war to any successor of Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, who fails to probe his administration.

Asari-Dokubo stated this while answering questions from reporters in Port Harcourt after attending a town hall meeting organized by NDPVF in partnership with the Niger Delta People Salvation Front (NDPSF).

He asked why Nigerians were blaming Jonathan for all the country’s woes, when the nation has over 800 governments, made up of 774 local government areas, 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

His words, “We have over 800 governments in Nigeria. There are 774 local government areas, 36 states and Abuja. Is Jonathan governing all of them? Is there no corruption in Rivers State? Corruption is high in the states controlled by the All Progressives Congress.

“We condemn in its totality act of violence against our own people. There is no need for Kalabari-Kalabari violence, Ikwerre-Ikwerre violence, Ogoni-Ogoni violence, Okrika-Okrika violence.

“There is no need for Itsekiri-Itsekiri violence, Urhobo-Urhobo violence, Bayelsa-Bayelsa violence.

There is no need and no basis for it. “What we are saying is that our people will work amicably among ourselves.”
