African Pop Icon 2face Idibia has delivered his speech at the on-going Nigerian Entertainment Conference.
Idibia who delivered the speech 'Slaying the Collective Rights Monster' discussed how the music industry needs to collectively put an end to the controversy surrounding collecting rights and royalty in Nigeria
'The monster has to be tackled and wrestled to the ground. I am not an aristocrat but I have common sense and knowledge', 2face said.
He also raised the issue of individual responsibility. 'There is a task bestowed for me to say this today' that is why I stand before you'.2face says being educated and self-aware are the first steps to taking the fight to the 'monster' and that it is not a time for blaming or pointing fingers
'This is not the time for 'he said, she said', we need to protect our IP. Try to know your rights'.The 'African queen' singer also charged the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation to make sure the media obey the law. 'NBC needs to ensure compliance on radio and TV. Nobody should be above the law'.

'TALENT IS NOT ENOUGH' OMOTOLA JALADE-EKEINDE

Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde says entertainers should not neglect the importance of education.
In her speech delivered at this year's Nigerian Entertainment Conference held at the Grand Ballroom of Eko Hotels and Suites, the Nollywood star employed her fellow entertainers not to be satisfied with the level of exposure they currently have.
'Education is not compulsory but will take you farther. Your talent is not enough', she explained.
Ekeinde who kicked off the Social Responsibility Session with her speech 'Why We Should Care' also made a call to Nigerian entertainers to take up the roles of leaders in the society because 'entertainers are the real leaders'.
'Entertainers are the true leaders. We have been the sleeping giant for too long. Let's wake up and leads. Let's use our influence right', she explained.
But she warned people who have accused her of politicking with 'people in high places' not to mention her name in such discussions.
'Somebody on a blog a few days ago wrote said Nollywood personalities are friends with politicians and spending the money together. I Omotola have never campaigned or partied with any Government, so don't mention my name among those who do that. I have suffered enough for refusing to party with them and take Ghana Must go backs, so don't let me suffer more', Omotola added
'If as an entertainer you want to be friends with politicians, do so without aligning your brand with whatever the politicians stand for', she adviced.

USHER REVEALS HIS SON HAS SERIOUS FORM OF DIABETES

The price of celebrity can, for some, mean not being there for their family very often. However, for Usher, while he may still be well involved in his career, he claims that his children come first. The singer revealed in a recent interview that one of his two sons was just diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and this is changing his life in a multitude of ways.

The host of “The Voice,” Carson Daly, interviewed all four of the judges on the show, which include Adam Levine, Usher Raymond, Blake Shelton, and Shakira, for the “Today” show. Usher opened up and revealed some personal information about his family. He said that this past year in particular has been extremely hard for him to deal with.

“I lost my grandmother, my son was diagnosed as being a type one diabetic,” said Usher. ”It has definitely been a difficult one for me, man.”

Usher has been silent with regard to which of his two boys was diagnosed with the the blood sugar disease. Both are from his marriage to stylist Tameka Foster. Usher Raymond V is six years old, and Naviyd is five.

According to Usher, he spends a great deal of his spare time reading up on his son's dietary requirements. He says it is important to him that his son remains in good health, and even when he gets a free moment on “The Voice” that is exactly what he is doing.

“Sometimes you're looking at me and we're off camera, and I'm online looking at numbers, trying to make sure he's eating properly. It's crazy,” he said.

Type 1 diabetes, formerly known as juvenile diabetes, is usually diagnosed in children, and only five percent of people with the disease have this form, according to the American Diabetes Association. Insulin therapy and other treatments make it possible for young children to manage their condition safely, and live healthy lives.

FOUR YEARS AFTER: DAGRIN, THE C.E.O CONTINUES TO REST

Today, April 22, 2014 makes it exactly four years since one of Nigeria’s most loved rappers Olaitan Oladapo Olaonipekun popularly known as Dagrin passed away, breaking the hearts of millions. 

Dagrin died at 6:00PM on Thursday April 22, 2010- exactly eight days after he was involved in a ghastly accident in front of Alakara Police station, off Agege motor road, Mushin, Lagos.

Although not killed on the spot, the rapper sustained a serious head injury, as a result of the crash. He was initially admitted at Tai Solarin Hospital, Baba Olosha Bus stop, Mushin before he was transferred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi Araba where doctors made serious efforts to save his life.
He was admitted at the ICU and operated upon, and later moved to the private wing of the hospital. Doctors worked day and night; we fasted and prayed, but all efforts to save his life proved abortive. He died on Thursday April 22, 2010 at 6:00PM and the world mourned for weeks. Dagrin was not just a recording artiste, songwriter, rapper and performer. He was the poster child for the term ‘From Nothing to Something’. He made every hustling Nigerian kid out there believe there was ‘hope’. As he became more famous, more Nigerians in higher classes associated with him (or his success).

He released his debut ‘Still on the Matter’ in 2007 to lukewarm reviews but his 2009 album ‘C.E.O’ was well received by critics and the streets with many calling it a classic. Dagrin’s unrelenting effort to record music speaking in his mother tongue has inspired the likes of Olamide and Reminisce, and many in the hip hop industry and beyond continue to consider him a legend. 

He was signed to his own label Missofunyin Entertainment and managed by Edlyne Records. Continue to rest in peace the CEO, our very own Barrack O’grin, the one and only Ako Ogun.

KEKE PALMER TO BECOME YOUNGEST TALK SHOW HOST IN TV HISTORY

Watch out Wendy Williams! Actress/Singer Keke Palmer is set to make TV history.

Keke, 20, has signed on to host a talk show “The Keke Palmer Project“.

The name of the show is still a working title, but it has been confirmed that it has been picked up for an initial four-week run on BET Networks.

It will premiere in July and will air from Mondays to Fridays.

The “Akeelah And The Bee” star will become the youngest talk show host in TV history.

The show will cover fashion, pop culture, social issues, sex, and will feature celebrity interviews, “on the street: bits and undercover segments.

She will join two-syndicated daily talk shows The Wendy Williams Show and The Queen Latifah Show.

MAN-UTD MANAGER DAVID MOYES SACKED AFTER ONLY 10 MONTHS

Who didn't see this coming? David Moyes, the man who was handpicked by former Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson to succeed him when he retired after 26 years in charge, has been sacked as the club's manager after only 10 months.
Moyes, 50, was dismissed at a meeting with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward at the club's Carrington training ground this morning, BBC reports.
Moyes left Everton to sign a six-year deal with Manchester United in 2013 but the premiere league champions have been playing poorly since he took over as manager.
Man United player-coach Ryan Giggs is expected to take charge of the club's next game at home against Norwich this coming Saturday.
Netherlands coach Louis Van Gaal, Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp, Atletico Madrid's manager Diego Simeone and Paris St-Germain's Laurent Blanc have already been tipped as possible successors to Moyes, BBC reports.

BOLLYWOOD, KANO TO ESTABLISH FILM INSTITUTE

Stakeholders in the Indian film industry, Bollywood, have expressed interest in supporting the government of Kano State towards actualising a film institute for the state at Bagauda.

According to a statement signed and made available to LEADERSHIP by the director of Press and Public Relation to the executive governor of Kano State, Halilu I. Dantiye, the Indian film experts gave the assurance while exchanging views with the state governor, Rabi'u Musa Kwankwaso during a meeting in Delhi, the Indian capital.

In the statement, Kwankwaso said the state government is putting necessary infrastructure in place for the successful take-off of the institute, assuring that his administration is ready to work with them to make it the best of its kind in Nigeria.

He expressed optimism that youths in the state, particularly those with interest in the film industry will avail themselves of the opportunity, assuring that the government is willing to support them to exploit their potentials to the fullest.

Meanwhile, some of the 502 students from the state who are being sponsored by Kwankwaso's administration for their postgraduate studies in India also honoured the governor with an award of excellence.

Receiving the award, Kwankwaso, who described education as the cornerstone of his administration's human development agenda, restated determination to make Kano the hub of educated men and women in the nearest future.

He thanked the students for the honour which he said was a morale booster and advised them to continue to be good ambassadors of the state and Nigeria by devoting their time to moral and academic excellence.

The governor also visited medical students from the states who are currently studying at M.S. Ramaiah Medical College, Bengaluru, Karnataka, where he expressed satisfaction with their progress so far and praised authorities of the college for their commitment to excellence.

WHY I DID NOT GIVE BIRTH ABROAD' - MUMA GEE

Musician Gift Uwama popularly known as Muma Gee and her actor husband, Prince Oluemebe Eke welcomed a set of twins, a boy and a girl, on April 18th in Port Harcourt. The singer in a recent interview with Encomium mag explained why she chose to give birth in Nigeria instead of traveling abroad like most of her colleagues do.

"I am a great woman and I wasn't born abroad. I was born in Rivers state. So my children will also be great. The hospital is in Rivers state. I am not one of those who would travel abroad and spend a lot of money to deliver their babies. I have told myself I will deliver in Nigeria and the children and I will all succeed here"

She also expressed her joy over the birth of her bundles of joy. 

"I am excited. I am elated. I am very happy and thankful to God Almighty. Words are not enough to express our feeling. I will say I am overwhelmed. It is like God, is this me? Are these beautiful babies for us? How did this happen? What have we done to deserve this miracle? I was not initially expecting twins. All I knew was that I started getting big and bigger. And people would see me and say, oh, you are looking so beautiful. I didn't believe I was going to have twins. We thank God."

9ICE RELEASES DOUBLE ALBUM 'C.N.N' + 'G.R.A'

Nigerian singer 9ice, has released a new double album titled 'G.R.A' and 'C.N.N'.

The Alapomeji star released his new albums on Monday, April 14, 2014.

The singer tells NET that C.N.N stands for 'Cancelling Numerous Negativity' while 'G.R.A' means 'Galvanizing Right Ahead'. Both albums contain eight tracks each, making a total of 16 songs. The albums feature the likes of Olamide, Oritse Femi, Flavour and Phyno.

This isn't the first time the Oyo-born Pop singer has released a double album. In 2011, the singer released 'Bashorun Gaa' and 'Versus' at the same time.

With these two recent albums, 9ice's album discography increases to a total of seven studio albums. He recently re-released his first and third albums 'Certificate' and 'Tradition'. His second album 'Gongo Aso' however remains his most successful, commercially and critically.

It would be recalled that some of the reasons Peter wants out is that he claims his brothers do not respect his wife and that their brother, Jude, has been disrespecting Lola for years.
Peter is especially bitter, and it is still possible that Jude and Paul stay together, while Peter dumps them.
The described deadlock prompted his packing out of Squareville mansion in Omole where he lived with his brothers for years to Lekki Phase 1 with his wife Lola Omotayo and their children.

PEACHES GELDOF BURIED

25-year old Peaches Geldof, who was found dead at her home in Kent on the 7th of April, 2014, with the cause of her death still unknown has been buried today.
Geldof's coffin was painted light blue and adorned with a mural of the star with her husband Thomas Cohen, their two sons and their pet dogs, which she often posted on her twitter and instagram pages.
The same church where her wedding took place in 2012 was where her funeral service held this morning. It was also the same place her father wedded her mother, Paula Yates in 1988.
