MEET THE 41-YEAR-OLD WOMAN WHO LEGALLY CHANGED HER FIRST NAME TO SEXY (PHOTOS)

A central Ohio woman who loathed being named Sheila and wanted a moniker that reflects her personality has legally changed her first name to Sexy.
A Licking County judge on Tuesday approved the request from the 41-year-old Pataskala (puh-TAS’-kuh-luh) woman formerly named Sheila Ranea Crabtree.
In her application, Crabtree called her given name “the ugliest one out there.” She says that if the court didn’t allow the switch to Sexy, she’d try to become known legally by her middle name, which she has used for years.
The Columbus Dispatch reports that Crabtree told a judge that her husband and teenage daughters approve of the change. When the judge asked why she chose Sexy, Crabtree said she’s fun and free-spirited and thought the change would make her complete.

AMERICAN PHOTOGRAPHER CREATES AMAZING GALLERY OF YORUBA ORISHAS (LOOK)

Depicting the beauty and essence of the ‘Orishas’ i.e divinities of the Yoruba culture, in Western Nigeria, the Atlanta-based Photographer created the ‘Orisha’ art exhibition to portray the Yoruba gods through art and illustration. The Yoruba culture, which is one of the largest tribes in Nigeria, has at least 1,700 gods of which 20 are recognized or most famous. Some of these gods are worshiped in their own rights while others are paid tribute through holidays and festivals.
See what he said about his ‘YORUBA ORISHA EXPERIENCE’ exhibition below:
Throughout my formal education from elementary up through college I never heard tale of African deities. A little over a month ago I began to research online to find information in regards to the gods & goddesses of Africa. To my surprise there were many, however the ones that stood out the most were the deities of Nigeria and Benin, West Africa which they referred to as ORISHAS.
This entire belief in the Orishas was directly linked to the Yoruba of the Ifa Tradition.
I wanted to portray the regal beauty of each Orisha while also representing their majestic sensuality. Each iconic depiction was rendered to lend strength to our resilience as a great race of people and to show our youth that they are beautiful, bold and brilliant just they way God created them to be. Although I am aware that the Ifa Tradition traveled in the Ori “Head” of those Blacks that were captured as slaves and sent to other parts of the diaspora, I chose to focus on the true origin of the faith. Therefore each Orisha’s name is written in the Yoruba dialect and captures imagery of powerful men, women & children of various complexions who are all of African descent.
To all critics of my artwork who feel that I have misrepresented, over-sexualized, over-modernized, mis-colorized or overall disrespected the Orishas I would like to draw your attention to my favorite phrase…."INTERPRETATION…MUCH LIKE THE BIBLE IS BASED UPON THE TRANSLATOR". There is no wrong when it comes to an artist’s creative interpretation, one must learn to become fluid with your perception and open up your mind to what the creator of the work is trying to convey. To all of my faithful supporters I would just like to say that I appreciate you more than words could ever express.
In no way, shape or form am I advocating the Ifa tradition, as I myself am not a practitioner of the faith, however I wish to shed light on our rich history in hopes that it will enlighten those who wish to dismiss our culture and heritage as merely rubbish. I am not the source of wisdom surrounding the Ifa Tradition as previously stated…I am merely the artist, however the door has been opened for you to research and learn more for yourself…Take that opportunity!

TWERKING STARTED FROM AFRICA SKUKI BROTHERS CLAIM

The duo who spoke to Encomium magazine last week Saturday have said, Twerking started from Africa and Fela’s dancers are known to have done it better than Miley Cyrus. So there's no way they tried to imitate the western world in their new video ‘silifa’.
It’s people with inferiority complex that say we are imitating the western world. They’ve argued why couldn’t we imitate the likes of Fela Anikulapo Kuti, or Shina Peters? As far back as the 80's, Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s girls used to twerk on stage better than what Miley Cyrus’s do these days. Honestly, twerking started from Africa, it has always been part of our dancing culture. Yorubas call it ‘Redi’. So, why are they rubbishing it?

BILL GATES STEPS DOWN AS CHAIRMAN OF MICROSOFT; SATYA NADELLA NAMED NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE

Bill Gates has quit as Microsoft chairman to take up a new role as technology adviser in a management shake-up that will see Satya Nadella become chief executive.
The announcement ends a long search for a new chief after Steve Ballmer announced his intention to retire in August.
Mr Nadella is only the third chief executive in Microsoft’s 39-year history, following co-founder Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer.
“During this time of transformation, there is no better person to lead Microsoft than Satya Nadella,” said Bill Gates in a statement. “Satya is a proven leader with hard-core engineering skills, business vision and the ability to bring people together. His vision for how technology will be used and experienced around the world is exactly what Microsoft needs as the company enters its next chapter of expanded product innovation and growth.”
Mr Gates will support Mr Nadella “in shaping technology and product direction”, Microsoft said.
Microsoft also said John Thompson, the senior independent director, will succeed Mr Gates as chairman. Gates will assume a new role as “technology advisor,” the company said in a statement.
Mr Nadella grew up in Hyderabad, India and his appointment as CEO makes him the most powerful Indian-born tech executive in the world.

MUSIC ARTISTE AFRICAN CHINA BLAMES HIS ABSENCE FROM THE MUSIC SCENE ON FATHERHOOD

Popular music artiste Africa China has been away from the music scene for so long and here is his reason when recently asked what has kept him out of the music scene for so long.
The music star who is currently working on a collabo with Flavour and 2face Idibia said he left music temporarily to raise his children, but is fully back now "I've been working but after becoming a father, I told myself I needed to concentrate fully and see what fatherhood is all about.
I do not want to have a scattered home. You know its not easy. I know I may not be able to manage stardom and family so I had to quit one for another. No that I left music but just I just wanted to relax and face my family.
I left music for them but now that my kids are grown up, I think I can hit the streets. I'm good to go." He says.
Talking about his new slimmed down look and darker complexion, African China jokingly blamed it on fatherhood. "(Laughs) fatherhood join. E reach make person thin o.
They say that one thing that remains constant is change but one has to change for the better and not for worse. Leaving the scene for long and now planning to come back, its good that I'm coming back with a new look because if you come back and you don't look good, that means you have been suffering all this while.

MERCY JOHNSON, THE MOST RESPONSIBLE NOLLYWOOD ACTRESS?

Mercy Johnson is one of the most gifted actors in Nigeria. Some people have continued to marvel at the way she interprets her movie roles judiciously to the extent of totally ‘putting on the whole armour’ of the character she is asked to play in her films.
This does not mean that there are no other actors who perfectly play their respective movie characters, but Mercy Johnson has successfully carved a niche for herself.
Among the female folks in the ‘scandalous’ film industry in Nigeria, Mercy Johnson has managed to survive the industry with few controversies, especially in the ‘sex scandal’ category.
With the high status the Kogi State-born screen diva has attained over the period of time, some would have expected her to be messing around like some other colleagues, who jump from one man to other all in the quest to ride the costliest cars in the world, or live in Lekki, or lodge in a cheap Dubai hotel, but visit the most expensive hotel in the oil rich city and claim they were lodged there.
But for Mercy Johnson, she has consistently lived a low-key life with her hardworking Edo State-born handsome oil and gas big boy, Prince Odi Okojie.
Some have even criticised her for living a low-key life as a star but she has remained unperturbed.
Though her wedding to Odi in 2011 created bitter controversies, which categorised her under the group ‘alleged’ husband snatchers, apart from that, not much of her sex scandal story(ies) has (have) hit the news headlines. This has kept many wondering if Mercy Johnson is really one of the most responsible Nollywood actresses.

MANDELA WILLS $4.1M ESTATE TO FAMILY, STAFF, ANC

Former South African president and anti-apartheid hero Nelson Mandela left his $4.1 million estate to family members, the ruling African National Congress, former staff and several local schools, according to a reading of his will on Monday.
The will was expected to set off another round of squabbling among members of his large and factious family over the Nobel Peace Prize laureate's financial legacy.
Deputy Chief Justice Dikgang Moseneke said he was not aware of any possible wrangle over the provisional 46-million-rand estate, although when the will was read to family earlier on Monday the mood was "charged with emotion."
"I am not aware of any contest of any type and the will has been duly lodged and accepted," Moseneke said.
Mandela's third wife, Graca Machel, is entitled to half the estate under South African marital law but could waive her claims and opt for specified assets that include properties in her native Mozambique. Machel has not made a decision on whether to weave her rights, Moseneke said.
Some of the estate would be split between three trusts set up by Mandela, including a family trust designed to provide for his more than 30 children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Each of the Mandela children and some of his grand-children received $300,000. His upscale Johannesburg house, where he spent most of his life after being freed from apartheid jails, would be home to his deceased son Makgatho's children.
The ANC, which was Mandela's political home, could receive a portion of his royalties from books and other commercial outlets using his name and image. Mandela staff, including his long-time personal assistant Zelda Le Grange, also shared in the fortune with 50,000 rand each.
"It really makes me happy. I didn't think Tata was thinking of leaving something for me," said Mandela's personal chef Xoliswa Ndoyiya, referring to Mandela using the Xhosa word for father.
Mandela, who died in December at the age of 95, left an estate that also included a modest dwelling in his rural Eastern Cape home province and royalties from book sales, including his autobiography, "Long Walk to Freedom".
More visibly, his legacy includes a potent political and moral brand that some of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren have already used to market everything from clothing to reality TV.
Some of his grandchildren have started a line of caps and sweatshirts that feature his image under the brand "Long Walk to Freedom". Two of his U.S.-based granddaughters starred in a reality television show called "Being Mandela".
Such aggressive marketing - as well as reports of fighting among family members over Mandela's money - have fuelled the impression in South Africa that some of the family members have exploited their world famous relative.
