#WORLDCUP: RONALDO’S GOAL NOT ENOUGH AS PORTUGAL CRASH OUT AFTER A 2-1 WIN OVER GHANA

Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal that sealed a 2-1 win over Ghana for Portugal was not enough for his country to progress to the round of 16 at the 2014 World Cup.
An own goal from John Boye and a strike from Ronaldo either side of Asamoah Gyan’s header secured the Portuguese three points, but an inferior goal difference compared to USA meant they finished third in Group G.
Ronaldo was Portugal’s main threat in the first half, hitting the bar with a swerving effort before forcing goalkeeper Fatawu Dauda into a fine save via a powerful header.
Portugal’s opener came through an own goal on 30 minutes when Miguel Veloso crossed from the left and John Boye slice the ball into his own net off the woodwork.
Ghana equalised in the 57th minute when Asamoah Gyan headed in from Kwadwo Asamoah’s brilliant cross that was executed with the outside of the defender’s left boot.
Gyan spurned a golden chance for Ghana just four minutes later, heading wide when unmarked, and he and his country were duly punished by Ronaldo, who fired in after Dauda poorly dealt with a looping ball.
