Skin bleaching is becoming a disturbing trend in African countries with Nigeria leading the pack. For some reason, a new generation of young Nigerian women have their minds set that fairer skin will bestow upon them new opportunities, and advantages their dark skin could not.
Despite the erroneous nature of this belief, after all Mercy Johnson, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, and Genevieve Nnaji, the three most popular actresses in Africa are dark skinned, and the male and female fans cannot get enough of them.
Only Heaven knows what can be done to make these women arrest this trend and stop the self hate, self discrimination and unnatural, chemical technique of bleaching their skin that will more than likely lead to diseases in the future such as skin cancer, sarcoma, and ochronosis amongst others.
Earlier today, popular blogger LIB posted a picture of yet another Nigerian actress that has bleached her skin to a pale white shade.

Several years ago, many African countries banned skin lightening products because of all the damage women were doing to their bodies after bleaching. Perhaps our lawmakers need to reintroduce laws banning skin bleaching in order to halt the trend.
