David Moyes has said he takes full responsibility for Manchester United’s poor form and believes his side have to improve in every aspect of their game.
The Premier League champions have suffered back-to-back home defeats without scoring and are only ninth in the division, 13 points behind leaders Arsenal.
“I take complete responsibility for the results,” Moyes said. “Fortunately they have been good in the Champions League but they’ve not been good in the Premier League. I would like them to be much better.
“I think there is a bit of everything we could be doing better. We would like to pass it better, to create more chances, to defend better when those moments arise so it is all round.
“It is tough because we expect to win all the games. We have been inconsistent at times and we have played very well in some of the games in the Champions League, not so well in the Premier League, albeit we have lacked a little bit of good fortune at times.”
And Moyes admitted he is concerned that United, who have long been renowned for scoring late goals, have struggled to mount a response after going behind to Everton and Newcastle at Old Trafford in the last week.
He added: “In recent games we haven’t finished the games the way we would have liked to. We have tried to make changes to improve things but it hasn’t quite happened. I think we have lost goals quite late, [although] the Newcastle one [was] not so late, and we just couldn’t find a way of getting a goal back.”
Moyes is adamant his players share the supporters’ pain but believes they will produce the appropriate response.
He said: “Yes, the players are hurting because they are used to winning and when they don’t win that hurts them. They care very much about the team and the club. They are good lads and they will respond in the right way.”
