I GAVE UP ALCOHOL AFTER WHITNEY’S DEATH - MARY J. BLIGE

Mary J. Blige has revealed that the death of her close friend Whitney Houston shocked her so much she gave up drinking alcohol as she realised the ‘importance’ of her own life.
The ‘Be Without You’ songstress says her close pal’s death in February 2012 had such a profound effect on her she began contemplating her own mortality and gave up drinking in a bid to boost her health. She said: ‘I was at her funeral [and] being that close to someone you loved so dearly, in a coffin, it freaked me out. It made me realise the importance of my own life. ’I didn’t stop overnight, it was a process. I feel great right now. I have more clarity, more focus, more patience. And I lost weight. When you stop drinking it flies off!’
The 42-year-old star will even abstain from toasting her 10-year anniversary with husband Kendu Isaacs with a glass of champagne next year. She told The Guardian newspaper: ‘I’ll have a glass of ginger ale. Ginger ale and Diet Coke are my drinks.’
The ‘No More Drama’ hitmaker, who was hit with a $3.4 million tax lien earlier this year, says there are always obstacles in life, but she has learned to deal with whatever may come her way. She explained: ‘There’s always drama, but you have to learn to navigate your way through it. Life is full of trials and tribulations, but I know now how to get out of it. You have to make a decision to say ‘no more’.’

I WON’T EXCHANGE WORDS WITH TIMAYA –EMPRESS

Empress Njamah has bluntly refused to react to her former boyfriend, Timaya, referring to their relationship as an ‘ugly episode’.
In a recent interview, the self styled Egberi Papa 1 of Bayelsa reportedly said, “You should not date somebody who already has a negative record. In my own case, it affected me at that time.”
Speaking to Saturday Beats on the phone recently, Empress said she wasn’t ready to talk about Timaya or his views about their relationship.
“People who are mature can depict what is true and what is not. I am not ready to say anything.”
Empress claimed the comment didn’t in any way, bother her.
“Why would it bother me? It is one thing to be hurt over such statement and another thing to be disappointed. I wasn’t hurt and I wasn’t even disappointed. Worst things have been said and written about me but the people who know who I am would tell the difference.”
Empress said she was more interested in what is happening in her life at the moment rather than talk about “what doesn’t make sense”.
“I am more involved with my birthday and celebrating it with the orphans and the less privileged. I am better off talking about this than to talk about what is not important. I am too busy making money. People who know you will always know how positive you have affected their lives. I am surrounded by so many people who have shown me love so there is no reason for me to be pained,” she said.

MO ABUDU: ALI BABA USED TO CHARGE N40,000

During the week, Mosunmola Abudu, popularly known as Mo, was spotted at Sheraton Hotel where she was a guest speaker at the British Council Creative Industries Expo.
The Moments with Mo hostess in her speech encouraged the youths of the country to identify their talents and build on them. Citing ace comedian Alibaba as an example, she said that while she was still a Human Resource Manager, Alibaba charged N40,000 and thought it was a good offer but now, he charges in millions.
She said, “There is talent in everyone. I have seen doctors, lawyers and other professionals giving programme ideas. In those days, when we wanted to hold an end of the year party, we would invite Alibaba and he charged us N40, 000. Then he thought it was a good deal. But now if you do not have millions you cannot call him.”
She stated that most Nigerian youths are not doing what they really want to do. Also using celebrities such as Tiwa, Iyanya, MI, Flavour, etc. as case study, she said that a decade ago nobody knew them but now they have made a name for themselves because they discovered their talent and made good use of it.
“Look at the music scene, few years from now, I would be 50. When I was 40 and needed a band to play, I got Styl-Plus. Ten years ago there was no Tiwa, Iyanya, MI, Flavour, but today they are household names. You need to discover your talent and utilise it. A lot of people are not doing what they want to really do,” she said.

ACTRESS CHIKA CHUKWU TURNS SINGER

Actress turned singer, Andrea Chika Chukwu is set to release the video of her song, “Music from the Soul” which was shot in New York City.
According to the actress who is known as Jumoke in the popular sitcom Fuji House of Commotion, the neo-soul jazzy song which she jointly composed with singer, Aramide was borne out of her desire for something that is deep.
Speaking on why she travelled to New York to shoot the video which is already trending on YouTube, the actress said, “I wanted to project that feeling of calmness and classy look that New York represents. I also wanted to put in the whole African print.”
The video, which is set to drop tomorrow was directed and produced by Stacey Holman.”

SAHEED BALOGUN DRAGS ESTRANGED WIFE, FATHIA BALOGUN TO COURT OVER NAME

Saheed and Fathia Balogun have called it quit long before now. But Saheed isn’t finding it funny that Fathia still bears his name-Balogun. Saheed last year threatened that Fathia should stop using his name, but that fell on the actress’ deaf ears. In an interview shortly after Saheed asked her to stop using his name, Fathia said, “I laugh, my name is Fathia Balogun and it’s going to remain Balogun; nobody can ever change that and nobody can stop me from answering that name.”
The case is now in court.

Ice Prince welcomed a baby boy last year with a 20-year old undergraduate student. Soon after she put to bed and the news went out, Ice Prince denied ever impregnating her, and said it to whoever cared to listen. He has however explained his reasons for doing that in this new interview with showbizplus, because he now flaunts the boy and also brought him on stage at his just concluded FOZ concert.
You initially denied having a baby?It was complicated back then, I didn’t really know what was happening and I wasn’t sure of certain things. So the best I had to do then was denying it and sort out things first. Now I know he is my child and I have done everything as a father ever since.
What is the relationship like with his mother?I speak with her often and it is usually about the baby. That is all for now.
Have you started thinking about marriage?No, I’m fully focused on my music.

How would you describe your wife?Honestly, she is a wonderful woman. She has virtually all the qualities that every man would want in his ideal woman. She’s caring, loving, God-fearing, hard working – just name it, that’s my wife for you.
What are the sterling qualities that endeared her to your heart?I just said that now. No man will not want to spend the rest of his life with a woman that possesses the qualities I mentioned.
Why was the wedding delayed till now despite you having all it takes to be a husband?The truth is that we have always known that the wedding will come up. We just didn’t want to rush things unnecessarily. We waited for the right time.
Entertainers are not used to keeping one woman, how is your own case going to be different?Entertainers don’t keep one woman? I don’t think so.

A source close to the former Ghana star revealed to XYZ News that Nii Odartey Lamptey has on several occasions ‘fought’ with her wife to make her change her cheating ways.
During Nii Odartey Lamptey’s career, he played as a striker from 1990 until 2008 notably for Aston Villa, PSV Eindhoven, Coventry City and the Ghana national football team.
He is known foremost for his erratic career, in which he became a superstar as a teenager and then suffered a long string of failures which burnt him out well before his time.

GIGGS AT 40: BIRTHDAY BOY WANTS TO PLAY ON

Manchester United player/coach Ryan Giggs plans to play into his fifth decade as he turns 40 today Friday.
The Welshman, who has never traded his ‘Red Devil’ badge for any other, has featured 953 times for the Premier League champions since making his debut against Everton in 1991, going on to win 13 Premier League titles, four FA and League Cups, two Champions League trophies, one UEFA Super Cup, one Intercontinental Cup and one FIFA Club World Cup.
“I’m lucky that I have been at one club, where I am surrounded by good players and a good manager,” said Giggs.
“It can be hard sometimes but I am still enjoying it. As long as that is the case I will carry on.
“I still want to do well in every game, want to win trophies and my focus needs to be on that.”
Giggs will not play on forever but his relevance to the current squad can’t just be undermined, and hardly anyone would bet he is not going to carry on. His current one-year contract is due for the end of the season and could well be in line for a new deal which could see him reach the 1,000 appearances milestone.
“If I’d moved from club to club I’d be finished by now,” he noted.
“I look after myself and try to train everyday in order to make myself available for selection.
“I enjoy it as much as I can and, of course, try to contribute to the team.”
Former Manchester United defender Garry Pallister- the man who was honoured alongside Giggs, then the Young Player of the Year, at the 1992 PFA Awards, while praising the ex-Wales international for his commitment, joked: “It’s about time Giggsy retired- he’s keeping kids out of the game!”
Giggs added: “I don’t know what the younger lads think of me. When I was 17 and 18 I thought 31 was ancient. Here I am at 40.”
